5 things you can do for your walls

Today, buying a property or a home means you are also enhancing your wealth over time because property prices usually appreciate over the long term. But how you maintain your home defines the stability, sense of belongingness and security that it provides you. Everyone dreams of owning a house one day and settling down with your own independence and privacy. Therefore, your lifestyle really depends on the interiors of your space and the environment you create in your home for your comfort and safety. But often we come across with people who either have a really good space but are confused about how to enhance or beautify it and keep it functional at the same time or people who have very petite space but so much in mind for using the space in the best way possible and to make it look decently good altogether. That is exactly what I love about my profession, helping the clients with what they want and leading their imagination into creations.

A very rigorous decision for people these days while they are designing their space is about what should be done on walls and how to choose what would be the best for a particular room. I personally believe in keeping a balance and symmetry in any given area, making sure that all the walls look fetching and have been properly used for the best purpose. In my experience and study, I have known so many ideas for empty walls or extra area in a home or a commercial site which can be used or designed in a very convenient way that even the clients don’t often realize. We as interior designers must also do our best job helping out people with very small space but with long list of requirements and ideas, which often for me is a highly interesting challenge and these kinds of projects are frequently my personal favorite ones.  Thus, I am thrilled to be sharing a few ideas about what all can be done on your walls and how you can prettify your newly bought home or a ten-year-old property that needs some good renovation.

Wall paints

Surely there are n number of paint shades and types of paint such as eggshell, semigloss and matte etc. but which type of paint will be best for your space or what kind of shade will enhance the beauty of the room is always an onerous decision to make. Therefore, such decisions are best taken by the professionals itself who can understand your taste, you interest and plans for a dream home. For instance, you go to a mobile store with intention of getting a new phone but often you are unsure about which phone to buy or what model is best for your needs. One brand is offering you numerous features while the other is offering you a good design and perfect camera for all your pictures. Of course, you will be now confused which one to buy, that is why the technician and salesmen are there to help you because they understand your requirements the best, moreover they won’t just sell anything to you but only what you like in the end as per your approval. Hence client’s approval always matters. What paint you choose can also change the size of a room, often people choose good colors but not the right wall or ceiling in order to make their space look more spacious or cozy (according to the preference). swamped rooms like kitchens, playrooms and small cafes will benefit from more durable finishes like satin and semi-gloss, while calmer rooms like dining rooms can get away with eggshell or even smooth plain paints. However, how you synchronize the paint on your walls, ceilings and the color of the furniture/ artifacts can change the whole atmosphere of the entire space.

Wallpaper

Wallpapers are highly sustainable and can last up to many years. Wallpapers comes in various patterns, style and textures which can brighten up any room in the house, it can be chosen from wide range of varieties available in the market or can also be customized according to the design or preferences. Wallpapers are often cost effective and easy to maintain, whereas wall paints need a redo every now and then. It requires less tools and time to install but can also be very challenging if it’s chipped from anywhere. However, one should always choose wallpaper that is washable which is incredibly practical and convenient especially for busy areas. Wallpapers also enhances the paintings or any kind of wall arts as it has a neat finish and can complement any look that you chose for your space be it sombre or cinematic etc. putting a wallpaper can add an illusion of spaciousness and movement, giving the room a new life. Therefore, choosing the right wallpaper for the room can be tricky at times as it can either give a unique look or disturb the whole idea of the desig.

Marble/ veneer

Marble is considered as one of the most luxury stone and rich element to be used in houses or hotels. It is one of the oldest stones originated many million years ago and was high in demand after its discovery in Gujrat, India in 1766. Marble is highly durable, known for it’s longevity which infuses richness because of its natural grain patterns and high lustre. Even though marble gives an elegant look to any space, you must know it is highly expensive and requires more care and maintenance. Nowadays, we have a lot of alternates available in the market that looks exactly like marble and gives equally nice and refined finish to any space. Veneer come in different shades, patterns and combinations that goes pretty well with marble on walls and has the ability to give any room a sense of spaciousness and elegance. Veneer laminates are very popular these days and are being used widely in interiors as it can be played well with any given area, for example, using on any feature wall or behind the tv panel. It is also greatly used in commercial places like restaurants and offices providing a very well classy style with a touch of traditional look.

Moldings/paneling

Moldings- also known as wall trim is a very cost-effective design that can be used on any plain wall to transform into an aesthetic and pleasant wall.it is more often done in bigger spaces like living room or long passages which also maintains the symmetry throughout and nothing goes over the top, balancing the minimalist approach. It is a small change that makes a big difference in any type of space and is also done in bedrooms and bathrooms nowadays. Moldings can be made of POP or wood with fine mill work that again comes in more than one design and can be customized if needed. On the other hand, paneling goes very well with molding and has almost similar style of installation. It is pocket friendly and very much similar to that of molding. Paneling done halfway up the wall goes really well where the majority of the scuffs occurs. This comes in various materials such as PVC, MDF or laminates etc, offering different prices and quality which may or may not be suitable for your design but can always be used well if taken help from a professional who can guide you what type of paneling is not only best but also cost effective.

Mirror cladding

Adding mirrors to a space creates magic, it not only beautifies the room but also makes it look bigger and wider. Mirror cladding is also super trendy these days and more people are opting this for their small spaces and also for their big spaces to have a nice feature that gives a very sophisticated view. Yet again mirror cladding comes in more than one style and shapes, which enhances the beautification even more. Though, mirrors are expensive and needs high maintenance, it is equally worth spending every penny because the after look always gives an illusion of something rich and decorous. If not heavy mirror, acrylic sheets are good alternative that provides an equal look to the space and are also cost-effective. If designed well, it can open up a space, bring in more light and serves an exquisite design element. It is best done in foyer, mandir, living and dinning rooms.
